Anna Cowley FordAnna Cowley Ford
is a postdisciplinary artist from rural West Texas. Using her experiences
living with chronic health conditions as a touchstone, Ford explores the often
bizarre world of living with chronic pain and disabilities. Along with
manifesting sensory experiences, her artwork conveys the social and domestic
impacts of health conditions on a chronic scale and the patient’s experience
navigating the US healthcare system. Ford’s practice includes, but is not
limited to, functional and sculptural ceramics, textiles, large scale
installations, video, and accumulated medical objects and documents. Artwork
like self-portrait ceramic busts and fabric figures instigate conversations
around the body, non-visible sensory experiences, and disability.

	Antagonistic Care / Care to 
Antagonize: Tools for Subversion: Working within a posthumanis perspective, Antagonistic Care / Care to Antagonize: Tools for Subversion presents an artistic framework for subverting inhumane systems of power. While exploring social injustice found in contemporary healthcare and disability culture, this thesis situates Ford’s artist practice within the tools of autotheory, craft, abjection, the uncanny, humor, and commodification, which she uses to make radical art. She draws on her lived experience of disabling health conditions to explore craft and making traditions with the experience of disabling health conditions.

Thao KieuThao Kieu (b. 1996) is an interdisciplinary artist from South Portland, Maine.&#38;nbsp; Her multimedia work is positioned in conversation with the larger cultural phenomena that blurs the space between art and life. The structure, style, and bold subject matter rouse care and liberation. It’s cathartic for her to create spaces that “aggressively soft scream” her experiences of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and forcing the politics of the personal, sexual and violent. By reflecting the body of her practice as a whole, the common themes of sexual violence and the use of her body as an object critiques gendered power structures that are perpetuated throughout life.

	for the heads in the sand, is that too aggressive?:
Thao Kieu’s practice reflects the objectified representations of her female body, aiming to intertwine the sexual and social normative. Sculptures, specific found objects, self portraiture and video based performance are the materials and formats used to create provocative works to subvert traditional notions of sex and identity. She creates works that are imbued with the body, and uses semiotics of bold colors and vignettes to abstract quotidian life, to break the silence of her childhood incest trauma. These strategies engage in forcing the politics of the personal to disorient and confront debates around gender, power, and the liberty of expression in art and life through her autobiographical works. The body remembers and can articulate traumatic experiences with psychological pain and suffering. She asserts her agency and reclaims the lost power as a child now as a critical independent thinker and maker to advocate having hard conversations around uncomfortable issues relating to sex, the body and violence.

Johab SilvaJohab Silva’s interdisciplinary art practice and research explores themes of environmental issues, time, chance, and digital media issues, through an interdisciplinary practice that involves performance, digital art, installation, moving image, sculpture, and NFTs. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Transformer Gallery, Miami Art Palace, and the Santo André Museum of Art. Recent exhibitions include Cody Gallery, Kuns&#38;amp;Haus Gallery, Touchstone Gallery, The Wrong Biennale, and The Kreeger Museum in Washington D.C. His work has been reviewed in The Washington Post, Sculpture Magazine, Cruzeiro do Sul Newspaper, PBS, and many other media venues. Silva earned his BFA and MAT degrees from the Corcoran College of Art and Design and is currently an MFA candidate at Maine College of Art and Design. Silva lives and works in the Washington, D.C. metro area with his family.

	Metajuricaba: is work fabricated in four different digital formats: Virtual Reality (on view), NFT (on view), Net-Art, and downloadable file for desktop computer. It is the culmination of two years investigating the fabrication of NFTs, video works, 3D animations, digital printing, digital performance, video projections, net-art, websites, and collaboration projects that focus on digital art. This process of investigating NFTs through the lens of other media formats creates a better understanding of how the field of digital media works and what types of challenges are often found within them. For the fabrication of Metajuricaba (2021-ongoing),&#38;nbsp; writings from contemporary scholar Richard Rinehart were relevant in the choice to use four different formats to develop this work. Lines of thoughts from the writer Marshall McLuhan about media as “extension of the body” and “media is the message” inspired the fabrication of the VR work. This work explores various themes like digital colonialism, time, digital performance, repetition for conceptual longevity, and proposes clear alternatives for best creative practices for those who are endeavoring into the digital field, by exploring these themes: NFTs content, NFTs and ephemearily, NFTs and preservation, and NFT’s consumption.

Jordan Woodis a painter and installation artist from Richfield, Wisconsin. She lived in the Milwaukee area for eighteen years and then started her college career at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. Transferring her sophomore year, Jordan graduated with a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. After graduating, Jordan missed the changing seasons, forests, and cooler weather of the North and moved to Portland, Maine to pursue a graduate degree from the Maine College of Art and Design. Wood is heavily influenced by film, which led her to combine the love for the genre with the New England atmosphere through her paintings. After graduating from the Maine College of Art in 2022, Jordan plans on staying in the New England area to continue painting her life as she sees it here.

	Watching the World Go By: After my friend committed suicide in the Fall of 2020, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about mortality, the inevitable death of myself as well as the people I hold close to me. My project, entitled Watching the World Go By, depicts this loss combined with my mundane moments of sitting in solitude, anticipating key events of life to come. The selected compositions show the waiting and watching that comes with being young, excited for life to start but wanting to freeze it entirely, already nostalgic for the present happiness of the moment while it is being lived in. To compose the paintings, I use video to record domestic scenes where I feel aware of myself in time, present in the beauty of the everyday moment. I watch the video repeatedly to find specific stills that I use as a reference for my oil paintings. This process combined with the care involved in crafting the birch panels I paint on, and the endless hours spent applying paint to the wooden surface,&#38;nbsp; is a personal way to dedicate time and attention to the mundane moments in my life and the passage of time.

Nicholas GoodhueNicholas is a Waltham-based multidisciplinary artist from Bridgewater, Massachusetts. His practice draws from personal experiences and explores boyhood in relation to American suburbia with repeating themes of privilege, toxic masculinity, and substance abuse. He received his BFA in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2016 and his MFA in Studio Art at Maine College of Art in 2022. Nicholas has shown work in group exhibitions in galleries around the Boston area, including Fountain Street Gallery in Boston’s SOWA Art District. He will be participating in School of Visual Arts’ Summer Artist Residencies Program in New York City during the summer of 2022. Nicholas is both a practicing artist and art educator, where he has been teaching in Waltham’s McDevitt Middle School for the past 5 years. His other interests include being an uncle, Boston sports, and staying sober.

Fragments of Privilege and Peril in the Pursuit of a Masculinity: What does it look like to choose danger in a place that ensures safety and security? I argue that the cultural construction of American suburbia and its mythic image and ideologies have bred an unsustainable blueprint for those who pursue dominant notions of masculinity. Grounded in the masculine belief of hyperindividualism and paired with a desperation for social belonging, youth who abandon the development of a unique, individualized self in commitment to the on-going process of earning masculine status create a complex culture of their own - one in which I was once immersed in. In my work I bring form to this precarious pursuit and unstable social identity. Embedded symbols and cultural references are woven into found objects to create works that are both familiar and obscure, challenging legibility to create an indiscernible read that combats a linear narrative. Found objects become surrogates for childhood friends and recollections of lived experiences while painted suburban imagery locates the work and suggests a privileged worldview.&#38;nbsp; Although the culture expressed through my work is saturated with privilege, the reality of embodying such privilege and pursuing the imagined position of power is nuanced. My work does not explicitly call for change or offer a solution, it implores viewers to consider identity formation tethered to dominant masculinity in terms of precarity, peril, and degradation.

Alexandria WittmannAllie Wittmann (b. 1998) grew up in a small rural farming town in Wisconsin. From a young age she has been fascinated with all types of art, but light became the inspiration and her current obsession in her practice after recently moving to Portland, Maine. After receiving her Bachelors in Humanistic Studies from University Wisconsin La Crosse in 2020, she chose to pursue her Masters in Studio Art at Maine College of Art and Design and&#38;nbsp; there she has branched into light installation and in depth research of material. Her most recent work is emphasizing the interaction between body and mind, perception, and how material can provide form to the formless.

Untitled (Just Blue) 2023:&#38;nbsp;Research of materiality, light, and form is the foundation for Wittmann’s work. Her use of cast shadows, spatial awareness, and form decenters the necessity of a tangible art object within contemporary artwork. Wittmann’s work references and pays tribute to the Light and Space movement, while also using the environment of the present. These elements converse with movement within a space and spiritual connections, similar to stained glass windows and the landscapes outside them.
